Urgent mail about mortgage turned out to be warranty scam

I got this urgent final notice in the mail, and it had what looked like a check for $199 with it, marked as an allocated waiver. It said they reserved the right to revoke alligator waivers after seven days of getting this notice. On the front it looked like it was from my mortgage lender, so I was worried.

I called the number on it, which was (888) 523-2836, and the person said it was a home warranty service. I asked where they were located and she said California but wouldn't give me a city or anything. I told her I scanned the document and uploaded it to my system, and it flagged as a scam. She kept saying it wasn't, but then she put me on hold and the line just went dead.

FINAL NOTICE letter about mortgage with check for $199

I got this letter in the mail that said FINAL NOTICE on it about my home mortgage. It looked really real, like one of those official ones where you tear off the sides. There was even a little check at the bottom for $199.00 that you could tear off.

It had my name and my home address on it, and it even mentioned our old mortgage company GMFS. They said I needed to call 888-523-2836 right away because this was their last try to get ahold of me.

I almost called but something felt off. I never gave them any money, but still. Just wanted to put this out there.
