Certified check for survey package turned into gift card request

I got a certified check in the mail for an assignment, something about a survey package. They told me to deposit it into my bank account and then take a snapshot of the deposit slip.

After that they wanted me to buy a cashier's check. Then they said to go get prepaid or gift cards from Walmart, $2000 in Apple gift cards.

Then they asked me to send a picture of the receipt and the scratched gift card to [email protected] or text it to 2393757368. The address on this was 2400 NE 8TH ST, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. I didn't lose any money but this whole thing made no sense.
