Email about Washington annual report that made no sense

I got an email at my company address saying it was a friendly reminder that our 2026 Washington Annual Report was due by February 28, 2027. It said they had our information ready to go and all we had to do was review, confirm, and we'd be set.

I clicked the link and the site actually looked legit at first. But then they said they could get me a certificate from the state of California. I'm in Washington, so that made zero sense to me.

I looked the site up on Ecautious.com and found out it was a scam.

Mail about annual report filing that looked like a government invoice

On May 28th, 2026, our company got this mail solicitation from BBFile.com about our annual report filing. The document looked just like an official government notice and invoice. The formatting was really deceptive and vague, so we ended up paying $209.00 thinking it was a required state fee. That's almost three times the actual state filing fee of $70.00.

We've been filing our own reports directly with the state for years, usually in July or August. This company sends these confusing, high-pressure solicitations months ahead of time. It feels like they're trying to trick business owners into paying way too much for something we don't even need.
