Ad for discounted product led to a fraudulent charge attempt

I saw an ad for a product with a discount so I went ahead and tried to buy it. When I was completing the purchase it kept showing that my payment method was declined, over and over.

Then a fraudulent charge of $1800 CAD was attempted on the credit card I used for that payment. I didn't lose any money but the whole thing was really sketchy.
