Charged for a year I never agreed to

I saw a charge on my credit card for a yearly membership. I didn't sign up for that, or at least I didn't realize I was. I called them right away to cancel it. The person on the phone said I couldn't get a refund because there's a two day auto-renew period and after that it's non-refundable. So I'm stuck paying for the whole year.

That doesn't seem right to me. I thought in Connecticut they have to give you a refund during the billing period. I didn't use the service or anything. I just saw the charge and called. They didn't care. Just kept saying policy. So now I'm out thirty one dollars and some change for something I never wanted.
