LinkedIn job offer turned into check request for equipment

I was messaged on LinkedIn by the account of the founder of Catalyst Circles after I applied for a job. They told me to email Emeric Winslow at [email protected] with my most updated resume. I did that, and then I completed an interview via email. After that, they offered me a position as an Instructional Designer as a remote job.

I even emailed the founder to make sure everything was legit, and got an email response saying it was. So I signed the offer letter. They said they would be sending me a check in the mail to cover the cost of buying equipment like a MacBook, external monitor, and hard drive. When I asked about benefits and my supervisor's contact, they said I would get that info after I purchased the equipment and set up my office.

Then they texted me as Lana Smith, the "onboarding manager," asking for the name of my banking institution so they could send me an electronic check to deposit in my bank's mobile app. That didn't make sense to me, so I stopped responding.
