Phone call saying someone tried to open credit in my parents name

Somebody called the house saying they were from the consumer financial protective bureau. They said somebody tried to increase our credit line and apply for a loan in my parents name. The guy had all of our credit card information, our address, Social Security numbers, credit card balances. He wanted the expiration dates on all of the cards. I gave them to him because I thought it was a legit company.

I called the Better Business Bureau and it is a legit company but they said they would never ask me for any personal information. So I canceled all the credit cards and they're all being re-issued.
