Text about delivery notice that turned into debt collection

My husband got a text saying he had a delivery notice and needed to respond by 5pm. It told him to call a number and gave him a reference number. When he called, a man answered and said he was from one company but collecting for another. He said the original notice was sent August 18th and because my husband missed a court date, he now owed 2608.33. The original amount borrowed was supposedly 1243.58. My husband has never borrowed from either company and neither have I. We have never even heard of them.
