Charged $1700 for something that is free on the DOT website

I got a call from this number (771) 208-4615 and they said they were with the US DOT. I was setting up a new DOT number for my business and they made it sound like I had to use their service or I would mess something up. They kept pushing me to go to their website, dotregistrations.org.

I paid them $1700 to do what I thought was the official paperwork. The address they gave me is 1965 S Eagle Rd Suite 190 in Meridian, ID. It just felt off but they sounded so official. After I paid, I found out that you can do all of this yourself online for free. I basically paid for nothing. They are just pretending to be the government. I'm out the money and still had to do the real work myself.
