Paid $149 for an EIN I didn't even need

I was looking into getting insurance or a bond for my new LLC and someone told me I needed an EIN number. So I went to einappilications.org and paid them $149 to get one. Turns out I didn't even need it. I didn't realize how many scams new LLC's run into until after I already paid them.

Then another company contacted me saying I needed some other number and that felt off to me. That's when I started looking into everything and realized I got took. I just wanted to set up my business the right way and instead I'm out $149 for something that was useless.
