Job offer turned into a check I was scared to deposit

I was contacted by GTS with a job offer and they asked for my resume. After several emails back and forth I was offered a job. Then they told me I would be supplied a work laptop and mifi. After that I would be charged tracked by the finance department and sent an electronic check that had to be deposited to purchase the HIPA software. Then I was instructed to start a telegram account for communication.

Everything was fine until I started asking questions about the software. I tried several times to get responses because I was afraid to do anything with the check. I have not heard back from the person Sara since.

The emails ended with Best Regards, Sarah Bowles | HR Assistant, Guided Therapy Systems. The job offer sounded really nice, $30.00 an hour working from home.

Job offer by email with no call or meeting

I applied for a job posted on LinkedIn with Guided Therapy Systems. Later that same day someone emailed me saying they work for the company and asked if I wanted more info on the position. I'm actively looking to leave my current job so I said yes and they sent me a job description. I told them I was interested in pursuing employment.

They sent me instructions and I followed them and agreed to take the job. I have never spoken to them in person, no phone call, no virtual meetings, our only communications have been through email. They sent me an employee assessment "test" that I've been sent in the past with other legitimate employers.

I can't remember if I provided my SSN at any point with this scammer. Like I said I'm actively looking to change my employment so I may have provided it. The email was [email protected] and they're out of Scottsdale, AZ.
