Someone online sent me a check that felt fake

I got contacted by someone on the internet and they sent me a check. It didn't feel right at all so I called my bank about it. They told me to be careful and I ended up having to make sure I don't get in trouble over it.

The person used the email [email protected] and I think they were in CA, USA. I didn't lose any money but this whole thing was a phishing thing. I'm just glad I called my bank before doing anything with that check.
