Met someone on Signal who asked for money and disappeared

I met a man named Mark on Signal, the private texting app. We talked for hours every single day for about 6 weeks. We shared scriptures and talked about our faith. He said he loved me and we planned all these future things together. He was in the military and said he was getting ready to come home to the states. He proposed to me at his retirement ceremony in October. We even looked at houses and cabins online and he was supposed to come stay at my house in September for our first meeting.

Then he started talking about needing money for paperwork and travel stuff to get back home. I sent him $2,255 total. After that, he just stopped answering. No more messages, nothing. I feel so stupid. I really thought we had something real. Now I'm just out the money and heartbroken.
