Letter with a check for $2,750.11 that made no sense

I got a letter in the mail with a check for $2,750.11 inside. It told me to deposit it into my bank. That was it, no real explanation of why or what it was for.

The letter had an address on it, 34 W 32nd St., Fl 1, New York, NY 10001, and a phone number (207) 814-4063. There was also an email, [email protected]. I didn't deposit anything because the whole thing felt off. Nobody sends a check like that out of nowhere.

I looked at it and just didn't trust it. I'm not out any money, but I wanted to report it because it seems like some kind of employment scam.
