Strange LinkedIn messages from someone pretending to be a client

I got a message on LinkedIn from someone named Peter's so called assistant asking if I was accepting new clients. I went through my normal process, asked for a short summary of what services they needed, and told them the next step would be putting together some ideas and scheduling a brief call. The response I got back was extremely strange, it really felt like they were just baiting me for a reply.

Then Peter called me claiming he had no idea about any of it, even though the messages came straight from his own account. It didn't make any sense.

They're scamming people on LinkedIn acting like potential clients. I just noticed the red flags sooner than most. I think you should look into them.
