Loan call asking for my mom's bank login

They called my mother about a loan she had been looking into. The questions they were asking felt off right away. They wanted her banking info and her social security number. Then they asked for her bank login. That didn't make any sense to me.

Why would they need her login when they already had the routing number from the accountant? The guy said they are in San Francisco, California but the calls are coming from North Carolina. No loan agreement or process seemed legit about any of this. We didn't give them anything else and hung up.
