Call saying my debt could be removed from credit report

I got a call from someone named Jen saying she was from Protect One. She said they did an investigation and found that big banks and credit card companies broke some federal laws about consumer protection. She mentioned the fair credit reporting act and fair credit billing act.

She said because of that, some of my debt would just be taken off my credit report and I wouldn't have to pay it back. That didn't make sense to me. Then she gave a number to call, 888-389-3921, to activate my rights or something.

I didn't call back. It felt strange. I don't know who these people really are. They just left this message. I'm not sure how they got my number.

Phone call saying I don't have to pay my debts

Got a call from someone named Jen saying she was from Protect One. She started talking about some investigations into credit card companies and banks breaking consumer protection laws. Something about the Fair Credit Billing Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act.

She said I might be a victim of illegal credit reporting and predatory lending. Then she said I'm not legally required to pay back certain debt anymore and it would be removed from my credit report. That sounds too good to be true if you ask me. She gave a number to call, 888-389-3588, to find out which banks were involved.

I didn't call back. The whole thing felt off. They were calling from a number with a Jacksonville, FL area code, (904) 456-1020. Just seems like a way to get my info.
