Lawyer promised to recover my money and then disappeared

I've been scammed a few times already so I was looking for help getting my money back. This lawyer John Peter Toman contacted me and said he could recover all of it. He gave me his state bar number 245125 and I checked it and it was correct so I felt like he was legit.

I sent him $8000 through theter. After that he just stopped communicating with me completely. No calls, no emails, nothing.

I really thought this time was different because of the bar number. Now I'm pretty sure I just got scammed again and I'm the one who sent the money this time.
