Job offer sent a check through email for equipment

I applied for a few work from home jobs and they offered me a position. We never talked on the phone, it was all through email. They sent me a check to my email and wanted me to print it out and deposit it into my account. It was supposed to be for a MacBook and internet.

I know a MacBook costs a lot more than what the check was for. So I figured it was a scam. Who sends a check through email anyway? It just didn't make any sense. I didn't deposit it or anything.
