Baked good sale charged my card two thousand dollars

I was going into Safeway in West Seattle on Admiral and California. This young guy was selling baked goods for 20.00 each. He said the money was going to help kids with disabilities around Washington state. He had a table set up with the RiseUp! Foundation name on it.

He tried my first debit card and it declined, so I used another one and it went through. When I got to the gas station across the street I saw a notification on my phone and checked my account. He charged me 2,000.00 instead of 20.00. I went right back over there and confronted him. He apologized and said he'd refund it. But he was just standing there not doing anything, so I told him to show me the refund. He showed me some receipt for 20.00 instead, which I realize now was fake.

I left thinking it was handled but it wasn't. I'm finding out now that other people have been scammed by this same guy. I lost 2,000 dollars to this.

Baked goods sale charged my card two thousand dollars

I was walking into Safeway in West Seattle, the one at Admiral and California. There was this young guy, African American, selling baked goods for $20 each. He said the money was going to kids with disabilities around Washington state. He had a table set up with the RiseUp! Foundation name on it.

He tried to run my debit card once and it declined. So I handed him another card and that one went through fine. When I got to the gas station across the street I checked my phone because of a notification and saw the charge was for $2,000.00. Not $20. I went right back to confront him and he acted all sorry, said he'd refund me. I stood there waiting but he wasn't doing anything. I told him to show me the refund. Instead he showed me a receipt for $20.00 which I now know was fake.

I left thinking it was handled but it wasn't. I've since found out other people got scammed by this same guy. He only had a square reader and the website on the receipt just leads to squareup.com. His phone number is (833) 239-6911.
