Paid my TECO bill to a fake payment site

I tried to close my TECO account and pay the balance of $776.29. I found what I thought was their 3rd party payment system, KUBRA EZ PAY, but it was actually a scammer at S H S SERVICES. They took my payment and then charged TECO twice more for $816.29 each on 08/24/26.

I got a notice in the mail saying I still owed TECO the original amount. My payment was never applied. When I called TECO customer service, they said the account can't be 100% locked but they zeroed it out and closed it with a note in the system. I contacted my bank about it too, hopefully it gets resolved.

I learned my lesson. Don't use websites listed on google just because they look legit. The scammers are SHS services at 877-615-4115.
