Co-signing for apartment turned into runaround and lost money

We were trying to co-sign for an apartment at The Current in Bend Oregon for our adult son. He didn't quite meet the income requirement. The saleswoman, Lily O'Toole, told him that if I co-signed without my husband's social security number, that would be enough. With all the scams these days, I didn't want to give that out anyway.

So we had questions. We phoned, texted, and emailed. Half the time we were waiting for a response. Then they kept telling us to hurry up and fill out the application to get their "move-in" offer. They wanted $50 just to fill it out. I paid it.

Three days later, she emails me saying they need my husband's info too. And get this - they weren't even counting our son's income at all! Plus the rent had gone up from the original quote. We've been renting and buying houses for fifty years. This felt like buying a used car from a shady dealer. Just half truths and a lot of ambiguity.
