Online job kept asking for recovery fees to get paid

I got offered this online job where I could make money doing data tasks. It seemed fine at first. They actually paid me for the first two tasks, so I figured it was legit. Then the third task was for a bigger amount and they said I made a mistake. They told me I had to pay a “recovery” fee to get my wages released.

So I paid it. Then they came back saying there was another recovery fee I needed to pay. And then another one. Altogether I sent them over $38,000 in these recovery fees just to get my $17,000 in wages. They kept saying I would get over $75,000 in the end.

Then they said I had to prepay 25% in taxes to the IRS through them before they could pay me. I know nothing about crypto or how taxes work with it so I called the IRS to ask. They told me it was most likely a scam. That’s when I finally stopped sending money. The company still insists this is how they do things.
