Job offer text turned into fake check scheme

Someone texted me about a job as an Appointment Setter, so I emailed them like they asked. Then they wanted me to contact them on Teams where they sent a link for a questionnaire. They said they'd review it and told me to be available the next day at 7am.

They congratulated me and had me sign an offer letter. Then they said I would be emailed a check to buy work equipment for training. I deposited it digitally and they wanted screenshots to see if the funds went through. The bank put a hold on it and wouldn't release the money. I told them I couldn't get it released and would call my bank.

That's when they said I needed to buy the equipment myself and would get reimbursed. I said I couldn't do that. Then they just said "kindly wait for more information" and I never heard from them again. Their email is [email protected] and the phone number was (877) 359-2071.

Job offer with digital check felt like a scam

I applied for a job on Indeed and then got a text telling me to email them to set up an interview. So I sent the email and they gave me a message-only interview, like no actual person talking to me. The next day I got a message saying I was hired. That seemed fast but whatever.

Then they said I would get a digital check to mobile deposit. That’s when I got suspicious. I googled the company name and found out it’s a scam. Their phone number is (877) 359-2071 and the email was [email protected]. I didn’t lose any money because I stopped before doing anything with the check. But it was pretty weird how real it seemed at first.

Text about a job offer with no company name attached

I got a text message this morning saying "Good Morning and Congratulations we are proceeding with your Appointment Setter Application please send an email to [email protected] to receive next step process. Please be sure to check your junks and spam box after sending the email sometimes replies are there. I wish you best of luck."

There was no name attached to it, no company name in the text, nothing. So I looked up the phone number it came from, (877) 359-2071, and it was linked to another scam complaint that sounded just like this.

I never applied for any Appointment Setter job with them, so this whole thing feels off. I didn't lose any money but I wanted to report it.
