Got an email pretending to be Venmo and lost $1000

I got an email that looked like it was from Venmo. It said a payment was sent from a business account to me. The person contacting me said I needed to send $500 more before I could get a refund for that $500 back. It didn't make sense but I did it.

I sent $500 using Apple gift cards. Then I bought another $500 in cryptocurrency for them. So I lost $1000 total. They kept trying to get more from me and asked for my debit card number, but I finally refused. The email they used was [email protected].
