Hired a contractor who took our money and disappeared after one day

Ryan Nelson from American Patriot Construction gave us a bid for converting our carport into a garage back in December 2025. The quote was $23,000 and he said he needed 60% up front for materials. We wrote him a check for $13,900 as a deposit.

He had no employees, just himself doing remodel work. About $500 worth of lumber got delivered and he showed up on December 19th and worked maybe 3 hours taking down our shed in the back of the carport. That was the last time he did anything. After that me and my wife had to keep texting him to ask what was going on. He changed his phone number and moved from the address he gave us. It's now June 2026 and nothing else has been done. I just want people to know before they hire this guy.
