Phone number given by AOL for password recovery turned into a scam

I had PC issues and couldn't recover my password for my AOL email. They gave me a number to call – 800.290.4726. So I called it.

I gave them everything they asked for. Copy of my driver's license front and back, a picture of me, all that. After a long talk they said they couldn't verify my account and they'd contact me. Two days later they called me back and made me go through the whole thing again. All the IDs and personal info again.

I'm pretty sure this is a scam. The callers don't sound like they're in the US, sounds like Indonesia or India maybe. I think they're just collecting personal information. That's all it feels like.
