Got a debt collection email that seems fake, won't send proof
They gave a case number and said I owe over $2800 to some cash advance place, with a settlement offer. It looked sort of real at first. But when I asked them to send me documents to prove this debt is actually mine, they refused. They said their role isn't to reissue documentation, just to get me to settle.
That's a huge red flag. They're supposed to provide that proof if you ask for it. The email addresses look suspicious, and the whole thing, the case number and the amounts, match up exactly with other fake collection attempts I've seen reported. It just doesn't feel right.
