Got a scary text about a fake loan and threats from a debt collector

I got this text message out of nowhere. I called the number and a man answered. He said I took out a loan for $1000.50 and had to pay it back today. He told me if I didn’t, it would go up to $1200 and then a police officer would come to my house. He said if I didn’t respond to a letter they were sending, there would be trouble.

Then he asked me about two people I know. He claimed I added them to my contacts list. I know that’s a lie. The whole thing felt off. The number was (866) 418-1452 and they said they were from Barstow, CA. I never took out any loan from them.
