Job interview asked for my bank before I was even hired

I applied for a remote job through the Beebe website for a position with Luxoft. Got an email to do a Teams interview with someone named Richard Anderson. He asked a bunch of normal job questions but then in the same paragraph asked if I wanted paid by check or direct deposit and asked for the name of my bank.

I told him I wanted to be paid by check so my bank info wasn't needed. He kept pushing for it so I just lied and gave him a different bank name. Then he offered me the job but said he needed to verify my info. I said I'd rather do it through email and he told me to reply to the one he sent me. That email was from a Gmail account not a business one.

I attached the email and the Teams interview stuff. It felt off right away.
