Job offer from a biotech company with no real interview

I’ve been applying for jobs and got an email from someone saying a biotech company was interested in me. There was no face to face interview or anything like that, just a “competency test” they had me take. Then they offered me the job.

I signed the job offer and then they sent me an electronic check for $1,845. They said I needed to use it to purchase a license for some kind of data security. The email came from [email protected] and the address they gave was 2500 Crosspark Rd, Coralville, IA 52241.

It just felt strange. No real interview and then suddenly money to buy a license? I didn’t go through with it.
