Call saying my mom would lose her house over a debt

Someone called my mother from a local Austin TX number. They told her she had a civil suit filed against her for some unpaid medical debt. Said if she didn't resolve it, this was their last attempt, and they would put a lien on her house. My mom is 65 and widowed, she was really scared.

They gave her this number 833-602-3235 to call and ask for Casey Thomas. This person had my mom's address and the last four of her social security number. But there was no case number, no company name, nothing on paper. I called Casey myself and he told me there isn't a case number because they haven't sued yet. Then he said I had to pay over $2,000 that same day or I'd go to court and owe over $6,000. He said if I wanted to negotiate I could make a "payment offer" and wait to see if they accept it. Then maybe they'd send a document closing it or set up a payment plan.

None of it made sense. No paper trail, no proof any attempt was ever made to collect this debt or file a suit. Just a phone call threatening my mother's house.
