Yellow UPS envelope with a check and no real job offer

My son got this yellow envelope delivered by UPS. It was from someone named Phillip Coddy, never heard of him. Inside was a letter and a cashiers check for $2,980.24 from Western Security Bank.

The letter said to text a confirmation that we got the payment. Then go deposit the check at the bank or an ATM. Then text the number (415) 658-2623 with a photo of the deposit receipt.

This is just someone trying to get young people to cash a fake check and get in trouble. Feels like they find people on hiring sites. No real job, just a setup.
