Letter about labor law poster with no government connection

I got this letter in the mail that looked really official. It said "LABOR LAW POSTER REQUIREMENT NOTICE" on top. It had my business state record ID number and everything. It even cited some law code 29 USC 666(i) and said I could get fined over $16,500 per violation. They wanted $110 plus a $4.95 card fee for a "2026 All-In-One Labor Law Poster."

Thing is, those posters are free from the U.S. Department of Labor and the State of New Jersey. I read the fine print and it says they are not affiliated with any government entity. They wanted me to mail a check to a Princeton, NJ address or pay online at compfsd.org. I did not send them any money.

It just felt strange getting this for my new business. I registered it recently and then this shows up.

Mail about a labor poster with a QR code to pay

I got a letter in the mail from some place called COMPFSD.ORG. The address was 28 Spring St Unit #263 in Princeton, NJ. It said I had to put up a labor poster in my workplace under federal law, and there was a QR code to pay. I scanned it and it made me pay other charges too, saying it was mandatory under NJ state law. I paid $445.

After I did that I talked to my lawyer and she said it was a scam. She told me all our paperwork was already filed right and I didn’t owe anything. The email they used was [email protected]. I just feel stupid for falling for it.
