Mail from Earnest asking for my Social Security number

I got some mail from Earnest which I guess is owned by Navient. I called the number on the paper to ask to be removed from whatever list they got me on.

Soon as I called they asked for my Social Security number. I didn’t give it to them. It just felt wrong. I think this is a scam and should be flagged as spam. The number on the paper was (888) 567-8688.
