Paid deposit for rental, then they asked for more money and stopped replying

I was looking for a place to rent and found a listing on Facebook. I got in touch with the seller and we had a few conversations back and forth. We came to an agreement where I would pay a security deposit and the first month's rent after signing a lease. The lease said I would get the money back if things weren't satisfactory.

I paid the $2000 total. After they confirmed they got my payment, they turned around and asked me to pay an extra two months of rent in advance. I said no and told them I didn't want the apartment anymore. After that, they just stopped answering me completely.
