Hired for block repair, took $2000 and never started the job

Matt Newman owns Firm Foundations Concrete LLC. We hired him to do block repair on our home. He got $2000.00 up front from us. He agreed in writing to finish by Dec 31, 2025. That date came and went. By the end of March 2026, he hadn't even started the work. We asked him multiple times when he'd start. He gave us excuse after excuse for why it was delayed. Then we asked for our deposit back. That's when he stopped answering us. We sent an attorney letter to him. He didn't respond to that either. So now there's a civil suit going on.
