Job offer letter with a check from a company I can't find

I got a letter from someone saying they were with Gartner offering me a job doing secret evaluations on different stores. They sent me a check for $1950 but it has some other company's name on it, Wamufat International Corporation in Hawthorne, California. The instructions said to deposit the check into my bank account, then send them a copy of the receipt showing I deposited it. After that I was supposed to go buy 3 $500 Apple gift cards, take photos of them, and send the photos back to the same number.

I tried looking up Gartner research online and on the Better Business Bureau site and I can't find them anywhere. I also can't find anything about Wamufat International either. It sounds like other people got the same thing with checks from different companies. The only way to contact them is through text at 415-936-5904 or email at [email protected]. The whole thing just doesn't feel right.
