Job offer from LinkedIn turned into fake check scam

I applied for a job through LinkedIn and they sent me an assessment to do. I did it and sent it in. After 3 days they sent an informal offer letter, then a formal one which I signed. It all seemed legit.

Then they emailed saying they had a check for $4,900 for equipment and to deposit it. I did and my bank was processing it. While that was happening the company said the vendor would take a deposit on the equipment so I sent $120.

I spent the whole weekend on the phone trying to fix a banking issue and emailed them Monday. Never heard back. While I was waiting I found a review on ScamPulse.com about this company.

Job offer email felt off after a LinkedIn application

I got an email about a job I applied for on LinkedIn. The interview was just a questionnaire with normal questions, nothing too crazy. They only asked for my name and phone number, which I already gave them anyway.

Then a few days later they sent me an offer. Something just didn't feel right about it. So I looked up the company and found a bunch of LLCs with similar names but nothing exact. I searched around some more and saw other people got contacted the same way by someone named [email protected]. That guy later tried to get their bank info.

So yeah, this whole thing is shady. I never gave them any money but it's still weird.
