Booked a room but it went through a third party site

I thought I was booking a room at the Campbell Inn in Campbell, California. Turns out I was on a website for something called Guest Reservations, a third party booking site. They added a few hundred dollars on top of the rate I got from the Inn and charged my card.

On the Campbell Inn site, under the name, the words guest reservations showed up. Below that there was a note in really dark hard to read letters saying this is a private company. I never saw that small note and just assumed it was all part of the Inn's website.

The number on there was (888) 784-0547 and the site was bookings.travelclick.com.

Hotel booking email added a two hundred dollar fee

I booked a room through what looked like the actual hotel's website. It seemed totally legit at first. Then I got the email confirmation and I could tell something was off. They tacked on a $200 service fee on top of the room rate which was around $200 itself.

I did some digging after that and found out this is a known scam operation. The email came from [email protected] and the phone number on it was 1(866) 913-0695. I lost $907 total to these people. It's crazy that they can just do this and get away with it. This whole business needs to be shut down.

Thought I was booking Hilton but it was a different website

I thought I was making reservations with Hilton Hotels. I found a website that looked right and I booked a room and paid for it. Only after I paid I noticed I was on some different website called guest reservations or something.

When I got to the hotel they said my reservation was declined because the credit card was declined. I asked what card and the number they told me was not mine. So Guest Services must have given them a bogus card number. I had to book a room right there at the hotel and pay again.

The money Guest Services took was over $256 and that was more than double what the hotel cost was in person. I still haven't gotten my money back.

Thought I was booking directly with the hotel, got charged $500

I thought I was booking my room through the hotel's own website. It turns out I was on guestreservations.com. I needed to cancel just one day of the stay and they would not allow it at all. They charged my card $500 and won't refund it. I never meant to book through a third party. The whole thing feels misleading.
