Got a suspicious debt collection call from Halsted asking for money

I got a call from someone saying they were from Halsted, about a debt. They wanted $140.78. Right away it felt off because they only had the last four digits of my card, not the actual account number for the debt. A real collector would have that.

I called the actual company I owe a debt to, the one I've paid before. They said they have no connection to this Halsted group. I even got them on a three-way call with the Halsted person. The real collector pointed out the dates were wrong and the Halsted guy didn't have basic info. When we started asking questions, the Halsted representative got really nervous.

I'm reporting this everywhere now. It's a scam. If you get a call, make sure you talk to a real agent from your actual creditor, check the email address carefully, and ask for details like the full account number. They couldn't provide any of it.
