Got a text saying I owe money to the state of Maryland

I just got a text message out of nowhere. It says "Welcome! You will now receive texts from Harris & Harris, a Debt Collector on behalf of STATE OF MARYLAND, CCU." The number it came from is (855) 336-5124.

I don't know anything about this. I never signed up for texts from a debt collector. I don't believe I owe the state of Maryland any money. It feels like a mistake or something. The text even says message and data rates may apply, so now I'm worried about getting charged for these messages I never asked for. I replied STOP to opt out, but I shouldn't have had to do that.

Got a text about a debt I don't owe from Maryland CCU

I got a text message from Harris & Harris saying it was on behalf of Maryland CCU. It had my name and said, "Harris&Harris-collects for STATE OF MARYLAND, CCU. Balance: $140.00."

It told me to pay at a website, harriscollect.payweb360.com, or call 855-336-5124. I don't have any debt with Maryland CCU. I don't know what this is for. The text came from the phone number (410) 215-4624.

I never agreed to anything with them. Now they're saying I owe $140 out of nowhere. It doesn't make sense.

Getting texts about a debt for someone we don't know

I got a text that said, "Welcome? You will now receive texts from Harris & Harris, a Debt Collector on behalf of Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission." It had a link to hhcollect.co/Harris and a phone number, (833) 480-8973. Then another text came addressed to a name, "********," saying there was a balance of $36.52 and a link to pay. I can't even type the whole link, it was harriscollect.payweb360.com and a bunch of other stuff.

We don't know anyone by that name. It's not anyone in our family. Now I've gotten three more texts, all starting with that same wrong name, and the amount they say is owed has gone up to $291.08. It just doesn't make sense.

Getting texts about a Washington DC debt I don't owe

I keep getting text messages from a company called Harris & Harris saying I owe money. The texts say it's for the Government of Washington DC and that I have a balance of $120. They give a link to pay and a phone number.

I have never lived in Washington DC and I don't owe this debt. I don't know why they are texting me. I tried to reply STOP to make it stop, but I'm still getting them. It doesn't make any sense to me.

My daughter got a text from a debt collector that seems fake

My daughter got a text that looked very real. I looked up Harris & Harris and they are a real collection agency. But the phone number didn't match. The text had a link that actually went to the real Harris & Harris website. The number in the text is (855) 336-5124 and the link was harriscollect.payweb360.co. It says the address is in MD, USA. Something just feels off about it.

Got a text saying I owe money to Spectrum from a debt collector

I got a text message out of nowhere. It says "Welcome! You will now receive texts from Harris & Harris, a Debt Collector on behalf of Charter Comms (Spectrum)." It gave a link and a phone number, 844-908-0174.

I don't have any debt with Spectrum. I've never even been a customer. The text says to reply STOP to opt out, but I shouldn't have to opt out of something I never signed up for. It feels like a scam trying to get people to click their link or call their number. I didn't click anything, but getting this message was unsettling.

Getting texts about a T-Mobile debt I don't owe

I got a text from Harris & Harris saying they're a debt collector and I owe money to T-Mobile. The thing is, I've never even been a T-Mobile customer. I've never used them, so this debt isn't mine. The text came from the phone number (844) 548-8080 and mentioned a website PAY-HH.COM. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Got a text saying I owe T-Mobile money from a debt collector

I got this text message out of the blue. It says "Welcome! You will now receive texts from Harris & Harris, a Debt Collector on behalf of T-Mobile." I don't have any debt with T-Mobile. I've never even been a T-Mobile customer.

The text had a link to https://hhcollect.co/Harris and another one to https://PAY-HH.com/p/mqWaHrHh. It told me to call 844-548-8080 for payment options. This feels really off because I don't owe them anything. I replied STOP to opt out, but I shouldn't be getting these messages at all.

Got a text from a debt collector for Comcast, but I don't owe anything.

I got a text from the number 69534. It said, "Welcome! You will now receive texts from Harris & Harris, a Debt Collector on behalf of Comcast Cable." Then another one came right after about payment options. It had links to hhcollect.co and PAY-HH.COM and a phone number, 844-908-0248.

The thing is, I don't have any debt with Comcast Cable. I've never even been a Comcast customer. So this text felt completely random and wrong. I don't know why they're contacting me or where they got my number. It just doesn't make any sense.
