Door to door asphalt job that turned into a huge lie about price

A guy named Bill from Harrison Asphalt rang my doorbell. He said they were working for Forsyth County and had extra asphalt left over. He offered to pave our driveway for half price, said it was normally $4 a foot but he’d do it for $2. He gave me a written estimate with that $2 price.

I asked if it was linear feet or square feet and he told me linear. He said the job would be between $800 and $1800 depending on measurement and if they had enough leftover asphalt.

They started the work and when they finished he tried to hand me a bill for $28,000. He lied and said he told me the price was per square foot. But the written estimate only said $2/foot.

He and his crew tried to intimidate and threaten me. I ended up paying $1800 on my credit card and called the Forsyth County Sheriffs department to file a police report and warn them these people were going door to door.
