Job offer asked me to pay for a credit check that wasn't real

I got a job offer through Indeed. They emailed me from [email protected] and said they needed me to do a credit check and a background check before I could start. I paid $30 for it.

The background check site they sent me to wasn't a real background check. It was some AI social media checker thing called White Bridge AI. It didn't check anything about my background, it just looked at my social media. Felt off right away. The phone number they gave was (605) 496-7611 and the address they listed was in Kennewick, WA.

I should have known better but I really needed the job. Now I'm out the money and no one answers when I call that number back.
