Got a scary voicemail about IRS collections from a random number

I just got a weird voicemail. I don't answer numbers I don't know, so I listened to the message. It was a guy saying it was important and he needed to speak to me before my file moved into final collections. He said he was checking files flagged before some 2026 IRS deadline and mine had unresolved items, maybe a past balance or missing returns.

He said he wanted to connect before it got passed to collections and that there might still be a way to help. He left his direct line as 833-727-9955 and said he was available 9 to 5 for the rest of the week. The call came from (804) 227-7937. It felt off immediately. I never signed up for anything from them.
