Email from fake owner asking for wire payment on invoice

An email came in that looked like it was from the Owner of our company. It was from a fake email address, [email protected], and it went straight to our accounting department. The email said we needed to pay an overdue invoice for services right away.

The invoice they attached was for $76,082.57. That’s a huge amount. It had all the TD banking info on it for an EFT or wire transfer. The account name said “Jerry Hamakali” and the branch was at 10864 Whyte Ave NW in Edmonton. The scammer’s address they used was 10240 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, and their email was [email protected].

We didn’t lose any money because we caught it before anyone sent anything. But it felt really sneaky how they pretended to be the owner like that.
