Paid for home repairs that were never done

I contacted a guy named Jose Santos for some home improvement work back on January 27th. He said he would fix my baseboards for $120. He asked me to Zelle him half the money up front, $60, for materials, so I did.

We set up dates for him to come out, but he never showed. Every time he had a different excuse. The last date we scheduled was February 18th, 2026. He didn't show up that day either and stopped answering my messages.

I asked for my money back and got no response. I found out from neighbors on Nextdoor that he's been doing this to a lot of other people, especially older folks. He just took the money and never did any work.
