Got a fake job offer and they wanted me to transfer money for equipment

I was contacted online about a remote tele-help job. I went through their whole process—assessments, questionnaires, even gave information for what they called citizenship clearances. After a few days, they sent me a job acceptance letter.

Then they sent me money to buy home office equipment and told me to transfer it to their vendor. That was an immediate red flag for me. I called my bank and Social Security right away. I also went and froze all three of my credit union accounts. The whole thing felt really off from that point.
