Threatening call about legal papers made me pay money I don't think I owe

I got a really threatening call saying they were a courier. They said they were going to serve me with papers on March 20th, 2026, between 3 and 5 pm. They gave me a number for a company to call.

When I called, they said they were Leiman, Landry & Associates. They told me if I didn't pay the total amount owed on some card I don't even recognize—an HSBC bank card—I would get over $10,000 in court fees and wouldn't be able to settle. It scared me, so I paid $1,685.53.

Now I'm just afraid I paid a scammer. The whole thing felt off from the start.
