Someone named Peter Davis texted me about getting money after I sent a cashier's check

I got a text from someone. He said his name was Peter Davis at first. He was talking about me getting money.

Then he said I needed to send a cashier's check first. So I did that. After I sent it, he gave me another name. He said he was actually Maynaid Peddie.

Now I haven't gotten any money like he said. I just sent the check and that was it. The whole thing felt off once he changed his name. I never heard from him again after that.
